Located just 5 minutes from I-5 in the City of Lakewood, WA.,
National Specialties shares the same ownership as Brookwood
Equestrian Center, Inc. Brookwood is one of the Northwest's
oldest and most respected sport horse training facilities. This
arrangement has evolved over the last 12 years into an
environment that lends itself to creativity stimulated by the
serene rural environment that affords National Specialties with
the lowest possible overhead, a working environment that
lends itself to creativity stimulated by the serene rural
environment and almost unlimited secure space to develop its
market strategy.
We began National Specialties in 1979 from the trunk of our
car. By the fall of 1980 we owned our own 1500 square foot
office building in South Tacoma and had grown to become a
major competitor in the Northwest Promotional Products
Industry. Prior to establishing National Specialties, the owner,
Larry Michelson, spent 15 years in the printing industry. Larry
can operate printing presses up to 36", is qualified to work in
Litho Prep, the bindery and silk screening departments. In
1981 a small commercial photo studio was opened to support
one of National Specialties larger clients. For the next five
years all print layout, design and photo work was done from
this facility for the Kirk Company. The Kirk Company is the
nation's largest grower of Christmas trees. In 1993 Brookwood
Equestrian Center was purchased and the business was
moved to the same property. This slightly rural environment
has provided much needed space to grow National Specialties
while providing a relaxing work environment just minutes from
Tacoma's busy financial center.
